Excavation

When planning a new project like a new building on your land, the most important piece of the puzzle is a solid base.

hat means starting with the core elements that are deepest below ground and then working your way up from there. After the land clearing process and grading are done, water service and septic system installation usually come next (don't worry, we can help you with those, too).

If your project involves services like digging, shaping ground, underground utilities, land clearing or site preparation, then  excavation will likely be included in your scope.

With several years of experience with Excavation, we provide a wide array of general excavation and related services for Homer, as well as the Kenai Peninsula.

Roads, Driveways & Parking Pads

Reliable and durable access to your property is essential and we build our roads to last! We provide complete gravel road and pad solutions, from start to finish.

We typically begin by Grubbing & Clearing (removing all vegetation, stumps, rocks, trash, etc.) the area. This work is often done using a heavy excavator.

Depending on the final grading, drainage and slopes desired in your project area, the soil may need to be moved around your site by a Bulldozer. Soils and materials may also need to be removed from the site via truck.

Next, we grade the area using an Excavator, Skid Steer or even both! After, we lay down the foundation of your Driveway or Pad, spreading and final compaction of the gravel. We add a few finishing touches, and your driveway is ready for every day use.

Southern Exposure has several decades of experience developing driveways in the soft, muddy soils of the Homer Area. We build road bases to stand the test of time, while making sure there is no gravel wasting or skimping on quality.

Drainage & Water Management

You don't have to live on a site that is wet with poor drainage! From culverts to ditching and trenching, we can help divert water, and create a safe and hazard free site.

Drainage is often an overlooked aspect of site development, despite being one of the most important factors. Poor water management reduces the useful life and effectiveness of driveways and buildings, and can also create safety or environmental hazards.

We offer everything from foundation (French) drains, to culverts, ditches, berms and swales. We have the correct tools, machinery and years of experience to anticipate and manage water issues on your property. Water management isn't something you want to wait to address.

Agricultural Land - Cultivation & Tillage

Whether you are looking to prepare your land for growing or creating a pasture for livestock, we can help you get your land to where it needs to be. Once your land is cleared there are a few more steps to prepare your site for agricultural production.
Tilling is the act of overturning, agitating, and stirring soil for land cultivation. Of course, this could be done by hand, but if you have a large area or several acres that need to be tilled, let us do the hard work! We offer primary tillage, which is a more thorough and deeper loosening of the soil, adding in plant material along the way. After land clearing, this is the first step to priming your land for growing.

Rototilling is an efficient way to keep your soil clean and ready to go for the next planting season. This method uses blades to break up and turn the soil. This is also a great way and time to add in fertilizer.

Sub-soiling is a great way to process soil that has been compacted by foot or animal traffic.  Sub-soiling typically reaches 14-20 inches in depth and can help to aerate and minimizes soil compaction, helping to benefit and maximize your crop production.
We also offer manure spreading, fertilizing, lining and other cultivation solutions.
